Over more than 1200 years St. Peter Stiftskeller - The Restaurant has been the epitome of hospitality and wine tradition. Founded on documents it is one of the ten oldest restaurants all over the world. Our hosts, Veronika Kirchmair and Claus Haslauer, brought this gastronomic and cultural heritage of Salzburg to a new stage of the 21st century. Today the restaurant unites candour and style. Not just the famous"Barock Room", which was built in 1903, and the "Haydn Room" were gently renovated over the years, but also all eleven historical rooms with their 620 seats. It does not matter if the occasion for an event is cosy and private or great and prestigious, we offer every requirements for an unforgettable and amazing event. Due to our professional room layout, the privacy of our guests is guaranteed and the individuality is kept. Heads of the restaurant, Claus Haslauer and his wife Veronika Kirchmair, combine with their creative team a sustainable cuisine with Austrian and European dishes. High-quality and fresh local products from the Alps and regional waters are a total must for our restaurant. More than ever wine tradition is celebrated in our historical building. In our wine cellar we keep beside a selected variation of Austrian, Italian, French and German wines, exceptional rarities.

Where to begin? Okay...so, I read the many reviews of this place and knew what I was getting ourselves into. Honestly, I even debated with myself whether I'd even show up or just go back to the beer hall from our dinner the other day. However, I decided to give it a try considering the history.
Let me just say that ---- I ate here, the oldest restaurant IN THE WORLD! Who knew? I still can't get over how that's even possible. Besides that, everything else was a blur. Ambience was weird and food was overrated. However, service was quite impressive.
(Btw, the bread and butter is "mandatory" (LOL!) and charges you 6 euros per person whether you like it or not)
Would I go back? UmmmmmHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 18. Okt. 2023
A little difficult to find because it's in a small section of the square, but we asked around and found it through a small entryway.
Wow! The decor is absolutely amazing and very modern with pop culture vibes. Knowing this is one of the oldest restaurants IN THE WORLD piqued my curiosity and we could not leave without stopping in.
The beer was beer. Served in a beautiful glass, and cold.
But the dessert that is nothing but meringue designed to pay homage to the three largest mountain in their region was mind- blowing.
Extremely sweet so they serve it with a very tart raspberry preserves to help keep it balanced. It was delicious and should not not be attempted as a dessert for one!
Look around while you are there. Looks the age of the building, you can see the original architecture and it's beautiful.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 198551237424. Juli 2023
Great ambience under the shaded protection of a cliff side and decorative overhangs. Tables are close but separated by small cute trees.
Wine list is deep and wide and a great opportunity to try little know Austrian varietals like St Laurent or Blaufrankisch.
Prime boiled Salzburg organic beef - tender although appearing well done. Comes with creamy bread horseradish, cream spinach (more like a sauce), apple horseradish and chives sauce.
Veal goulash - so glad for this one. Zesty and soul-warming. Served with beech mushrooms and a wonderful red smetana sauce. Spinach spaetzle on the side - I guess everyone has to try once. Don't expect a lot of flavor.
Homemade tagliolini
Creamy truffle thick glue like consistency. This dish was overbearing and the only one I definitely wouldn't order again. Think: heart attack on a plate.
By a sizeable margin, the quality here outpaces all that we tasted and experienced during ten days in a Germany. The service, presentation and cleanliness are outstanding. A highly recommended find!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 13. Sep. 2023
Tik tok showed me St Peter's the day before arriving in Saltzberg and I needed to check it out. It had a funky vibe with neon lights, foliage, and twinkle lights. We had a fabulous waiter and the food was alright. My biggest surprise was that they made an excellent smoked Manhattan and an aperol spritz, both of which I'm not a huge fan of. The smoke gave the drink such a smooth flavor, almost like a wine. Could this be the beginning of my love affair with a good Manhattan ? Only time will tell.

They've been around since the 800s so it makes sense that they'd have good food! The restaurant opens for lunch, closes, and then opens for dinner. I highly recommend you make reservations for your visit because it is very popular. For lunch you can walk in for a table without trouble. Dinner, you can't. The seating is pretty much all outdoors but covered by a concrete or uncovered in a courtyard. It's all open air. If you don't want to pay the high menu prices stick to deserts because they're very good, especially the apple strudel. Skip the soups. Staff is nice and does speak English.

While on a river cruise along the Danube, an optional tour brought us to Salzburg. We probably had 50-60 people in our group and serving that many people at once is a challenge, but they handled it very well. A hot soup took the chill off before the main course of schnitzel and potato's.
Eating the worlds oldest restaurant ( been around since at least 803 A.D.) is not something I had ever considered before this trip. Check that of my list!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 8. Okt. 2022
Highly recommend coming to Saint Peter's, if you aren't able to do their Mozart's dinner, the restaurant below is absolutely fantastic. This is a claimed to be the oldest restaurant in Europe, so a fun fact you can share with your friends when you go back home. Not only is it the oldest restaurant in Europe, but they also offer fantastic service and food. I had two separate reservations, a party of four and a party of five. Went an hour before our reservation and asked if they could combine the two tables together, they said they could. They placed us all at a large table inside and were super accommodating. The service was fantastic. Our food and drinks came very fast. And at the end for the birthday boy they even brought out a dessert with candle which was super sweet. The food was very good every one of us ate our entire meal. I would definitely come back here!

The interior is a little tacky and gives off Miami vibes. It's cute and fun but not really what I imagined the inside to look like. I would've liked it to be more classy and traditional but I guess lawn chairs and gorillas coming out the walls are good too. It took a good 5 min for a host to come and help us get seated. A cute older couple was waiting before us, so who knows how long they were waiting. The service was nothing amazing. They were very short-staffed and when you are sitting in the back corner it's hard to get any attention from the servers. There was one amazing server with great suggestions BUT once it got busier he wasn't really around anymore. The food was good, the tomato and burrata were amazing. My boyfriend got the steak that was overpriced for how small and thick the cute was, and not cooked to his liking BUT the hollandaise sauce was delicious with the steak so it made up for it. I also had some truffle salt with me that I sprinkled on top.

This place is full of history. They turn this place into a small Christmas market during the holidays. This is also considered to be the world's oldest restaurant.
