Lions, tigers and bears oh my! Beavers and otters and small baby potermusses! (Stuffed as your favourite stuffed crust mind you!)
Not for the faint hearted, this museum of zoology, well it's a taxidermy fanciers treat!
For all the Victorianaphiles out there, get a glimpse of the things the late queen Vic would have been amused by.
A lady who made mode of mourning, did you know she also surrounded herself by inanimate dead-gorgeous things like these.
It's weird and eerie yet fascinating, if that's your thing, go up to Tring!
If you're lost for what to do for a day out, take a trip up out of town. Or don't be afraid that you've fallen asleep on the train, stay on way past your stop and be a tourist for the day.
It's a beautiful display of well kept beautiful creatures: tits, nits, critters and things even bigger. A beautiful museum to explore with way less crowds than the Natural History Museum in central London houses.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Benny B.Conniburrow, Vereinigtes Königreich1193523. Been punch to go to this "mini version" of the London branch.
Well, nothing in common except the name. This museum focus only on all the animal species ever been on the ante (out of dinosaur...).
I have been highly and amazingly surprise by the quality of exhibition of such a small building. Explanation for every display, discovery in all corners, and a great photography gallery.
I highly recommend this museum, small in building size, great in quality !Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (louo…)Ramsgate, Vereinigtes Königreich292196. Okt. 2008
This museum is free to enter, and is a fun filled day out for all the family.
This museum displays stuffed animals from all over the world, and you can see pretty much every animal/bird/insect/creature you can imagine here, from whales and giraffes to gorillas, tigers, and even butterflies!
There are beaultiful grounds outside to eat a packed lunch, or there are refreshments available, and a little gift shop which is reasonably priced.
Kids and grown ups alike will love this place!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (ozgir…)London, Vereinigtes Königreich45320. Nov. 2008
This is one of my favourite places in the whole world! I've been here four times now, and I am still finding out new things and enjoying the greatest hits!
This is a great place to bring your kids, but you don't need mini humans to make this a great day out. I've come here with groups of friends in our thirties, and I think we have more fun than any kids we could find to bring along. But if you have kids, there's activities they can follow in each room so they learn at the same time as laughing about the funny looking birds and screeching at the insects.
A highlight for me is the Mexican fleas in the upstairs gallery (look inside the wooden cupboards by the entrance of the room) who are dressed up in traditional costumes!
My personal favourite is a seal that looks incredibly like David Gest.
The cafe is good for a snack and a cup of coffee afterwards, though normal museum prices - they have to make their money somewhere!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (snakek…)London, Vereinigtes Königreich136927. Nov. 2008
An unusual natural history museum that started as a very wealthy man's private collection. Much of this museum's charm lies in it eccentric mix of the educational and down right weird. The extensive range of stuffed pet dogs will live on in my memory for many years.
A good time to visit is just before Christmas when they normally exhibit the Wildlife photographer of the year competition before it moves to London.
This museum provides lots of children activities at weekend and school holidays and a little cafe offering a range of snacks.
The car park can get very full at weekends.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (jamiep…)Watford, Vereinigtes Königreich3042494. Jän. 2009
An utter gem!
Free and great fun too. The Polar Bear in the front reception made me cry when I was 5 years old.
A must for anyone wishing to enlighten their children without the hassle of having to venture into London.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Qype User (bonker…)Aylesbury, Vereinigtes Königreich27212. Apr. 2011Aktualisierter Beitrag
A great place to visit for children and adults of all ages. Free to get in which makes it a great place to spend a few hours during school holidays when funds are low or on a wet afternoon. I have been in lots of times and always find something i had missed on other vsiits. The shop is fascinating but also quite expensive and i always try and veer my daughter away from it otherwise a cheap few hours can turn into an expensive trip. They have exhibitions and talks at certain times so worth checking whats happening. There is a cafe, toilets outside, free car parking and an enclosed area to sit outside in teh car park to eat your own food. Well worth a visit or even visits.

Its great walking in and seeing the huge lion looking at you and the selection of animals and words is staggering.
There is a gift shop which is quite expensive so i tend to try and steer clear, there is a cafe outside and toilets. There is a car park right next to the museum which can get quite full at times.
Certain special events are held at the museum from time to time. The children can take a clipboard and answer a questionaire as they wander round. - Qype User (emmiew…)Harlow, Vereinigtes Königreich0397618. Jän. 2012
We visited on a Sunday, we got there just after 2 and it was packed already. There were no car parking spaces in their small car park, so we managed to find a space on the side of the road where others had, you make a right turn at the end of the road. The museum was full of stuffed animals, my youngest was amazed by it. Upstairs was quite narrow around the balcony area, so it was quite difficult to look at the displays, I guess a one way type of system would make it easier, but it's free so cannot complain really. There were a range of cases to open and view full of bugs, spiders, butterflies etc.watch those fingers though! Though it's a much smaller museum than the London one, it's enough for little ones.

The Natural History Museum at Tring is where they keep the Rothschild collection of animals. It is free to get in, there is a free car park for the museum, and there is a nice little cafe, which charges fairly standard prices for these places. The collection if stuffed animals is extensive, and fascinating. My children love coming here, it is clean, airy, and open, and easy to find your way around. The staff are extremely tolerant of children of all ages, and they have provided activities for kids. You can also borrow clipboards, pencils and paper for free if you like to sketch. The shop is small, and you don't have to go through it to leave the museum (which is a very pleasant change), but it's probably worth a look as they are pretty reasonably priced and often have sale items. One of our favourite family outings, but don't go in the mornings during term time as it's bound to be packed with school trips!
