This place is so lovely! The terrace is decorated beautifully and the food is amazing. Little bit of celebrations and loved the Prosecco as well.

We've spent a wonderful two nights at the Bull and the interesting little town of Bridport and surrounds. We were welcomed warmly on arrival and directed to park behind the hotel (free!), shown to our room on the second floor.

Commenting on the hotel and accommodation: it's an old coaching house, so has all the creaks and structural foibles you'd expect of an ancient building. It's been recently refurbished and is looking very swish. They've made clever and considered use of the spaces, and the decor is sensitive and creative. I really loved the small details, like the retro mirrors, the sheepskin rug, the wool bed-throw and prints of the local area on the walls. The bed was big and very comfortable. The only complaint was the seagull noise at 4am - squawking up a hell of a racket. I closed and locked the sash-windows the next night which made a difference. The bathroom was light and spacious, and they offer Bramley products which are all 'nasty' free. Highly recommended.

Commenting on the food and dining: There are inside and outside dining and drinking spaces. We ate dinner and breakfast inside on both occasions. The tables are small, so you struggle to find space for everything, but beyond that, the food is exceptional. The wine-by-the-glass is competitively priced and was of a high standard. We ate fresh fish, seafood, beef and lamb and it was all exquisite. The kitchen are doing a great job, and if I look at the reviews from the years preceeding, I can see that the Bull have really striven to do better and exceed expectations. Service was good, not overly familiar nor invisible. All staff seem to be well trained and familiar with the food, and in so doing were able to make their own recommendations. Book ahead for dinner, it is becoming more popular.

Believe it or not, I've got family in this area of West Dorset. Its one of the most amazing parts of Britain. In Bridport, the Bull Hotel is widely known for its good food and friendly staff.

There was quite a big group of people so we had one of their private rooms which was very nice, complete with a wood burning fire. The food was really nice, I had soup of the day to start and then the steak as a main. The steak was really nice and came with a nice salad and chips.

It was really busy in the main part of the building so the service was a little slow but that could be understood. Staff were really good and paid a really good level of attention to detail.

I've been to this place many times before so I can't say I won't be back again!

A really nice place, in a beautiful part of Dorset

I'm in two minds as to what I think to this boutique hotel in Bridport, Dorset. On the one hand the rooms are lovely, all differently designed with a mixture of old and new furniture, Neals Yard toiletries and fluffy white towels. On the other hand the rooms at the front of the hotel are noisy being on the main road, not brilliantly finished and in some cases right slap bang next to the gents loos for the bar downstairs. Also the prices they charge are London type prices but do not feel value for money. The food however is fantastic and well worth a visit even if you don't stay in the hotel.

Quirky rooms, nicely done, if not terribly practical (we had a four poster bed with a rolltop bath in our room but the latter was really for effect, and better use could have been made with the space there was a separate bathroom anyway). Osborne and Little wallpapers, antiques, all very tasteful a less corporate version of a hotel du vin. Pleasant staff. Some signs of wear and tear (a chair in our room needed a new seat). Lovely outside courtyard for drinks. Main restaurant was fine for breakfast, but the dinner we had there was awful the chef knew all the notes, but couldn't play a tune. We cancelled our booking for another night, and went elsewhere. There is a separate pizza and cider eatery, the Stable, which we didn't try. The place is not cheap. This seems to have been a labour of love, and could so easily have been wonderful, as opposed to merely ok. So near, and yet so far.

I was really disappointed with this hotel, especially given the number of good reviews I'd read across the media for it. Our room was so small that I had to get out the end of the bed, there wasn't enough room at the side. Given the emphasis they place on food I thought the breakfast was unimpressive - cheap orange juice rather than freshly squeezed and what tasted like cheap marmalade which didn't taste any nicer just because it was decanted into a nice serving dish. I found the service indifferent and would definitely not go back.

Great hotel. Very relaxed, casual, feel, with friendly, efficient service. Superb food, and an excellent wine list too. Not quite London prices, as other reviews suggest, and certainly of a quality that for us justified the price.

We had a family room at the back of the hotel which, though not massive, was very comfortable and absolutely fine for our needs (and had a separate small sleeping room with bunk beds for our son).

The hotel is child-friendly, and provided both childrens tea and great baby-sitters (and also has a listening service if you don't want to go to the expense of a sitter).

All-in-all, a great base for a much enjoyed three day escape!

We were looking for a nice place to spend the Easter weekend in the countryside (we are Londoners with a small young family) and ended up by chance at the Bull Hotel. We had a great time, the hotel is simple and charming in Bridport, a small town with a vibrant market on Saturdays and not much happening the rest of the week. The staff is really nice and the hotel has a great homy feeling, no posh service just friendly and professional support when you need it. The rooms have they own personality with elegant wallpapers and French antique furniture, and the bar and restaurant are lively, comfy but also quite stylish. There is a nice little hidden bar with armchairs and dark walls that opens up at night. The food was really good and good value (by London standard, a bit expensive compared to local alternatives). The Bull Hotel is rally child friendly which is why we went there and we were able to test that with our own little monsters (they loved the Ball Room where they could play in the hotel and they loved the bunk bed in their little room next to ours). Bridport is a good base to explore Dorset and the Bull Hotel is the perfect base for a young family or couple in need of a restful place to relax with no stress and make the most of this beautiful part of England. We may well be back.. and will definitely recommend the place to our friends.
