A very warm and inviting place. Warning the menu is handwritten in French and can be a tad intimidating. Staff does a great job of translation. Don't be embarrassed to ask for help.
Food was spot on with typical unrushed French service. Great value and a wonderful non touristy experience.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ambrose C.Brooklyn, Vereinigte Staaten127571165530. Jän. 2016
This place was recommended by a guy who used to live in Paris. When we walked in, there were no tourists at this place, and we only saw local French people. Gavroche is the name of a boy and one of the many characters of Victor Hugo's book, Les Misérables, which is supposedly one of the most famous books in French literature.
We had the escargots, which are the snails for our appetizer and they were pretty delicious. I cannot remember the exact names of the dishes. I believe I had a large cut of l'agneau, which is French for lamb, and it was with haricot verts, which is French for green beans. I believe my friend had an entrecôte, which is a French steak that was covered in a thick gravy like mushroom sauce with French fries. We shared our dishes, especially the meats we ordered. Everything was really delicious, the meats were tender, the green beans were not bad, but complemented the meat really well. The fries were also pretty good. It appears that any type of steak frites are popular at this place because we noticed a French family ordering a large amount of steak frites.
The staff can speak some English, but when I started speaking French, they were more comfortable with me speaking French, even though my French was broken. The prices are very reasonable, the dishes were less than €20 EUR, and they also write down the bill on the table. They also take credit card which is convenient and also were nice enough to charge your phone at the bar, but make sure you don't leave it behind!
Overall, if you are looking for a French restaurant in Paris with reasonable prices, with less tourists and more local French people, this place is great choice. I thought I had my best meal in Paris so far. My friend and I had a great dinner and it was a great ending after a fun day in Paris. Hopefully this restaurant will continue to be both popular for local French when more and more tourists arrive while maintaining the same quality.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 13. Juli 2012
This kind of place is the kind of place that is hard to come by in Paris. This gem of a place is an old school bistro where one can sip on some terrific, affordable wine while eating various very traditional, authentic dishes. Many of such places have dissapeared over the course of the last few decades but this place has stood the test of time and has been serving up some quality dishes at some very affordable prices.
Upon arriving I knew that I'd have a good meal and the three of us were promptly seated. Some fresh baguette arrived at the table alongside some menus. We also glanced at the blackboard which featured some other specials. They were a ton of them, from boar terrine to celery remoulade, oeuf mayo and various others including goose rillettes and even escargots. Personally we decided to forego some of those and instead get a big plate of charcuterie (10€) which came piled high with goose rillettes, saucisson sec and some pork terrine. It came with plentiful amounts of bread and some cornichons.
My fiance had an onglet with shallots (13.50€) while I enjoyed a perfectly cooked piece of cote de boeuf sauce marchand de vin (wine sauce) which was a special on the board. Each came with fries and in both cases the meat was plentiful and quite tasty. Much like our appetizer plate which was gigantic and incredibly good, especially the rillettes.
Everything was fresh, everything was tasty and the atmosphere while unique was very Parisian. Our waiter was friendly at times but mostly efficient. The value of the meal was terrific and our memories of it will be more than pleasant. We really liked the place a lot and look forward to hopefully returning in the future. Definitely a hidden gem with a very balanced menu of simple but traditional dishes. They really do ensure that one has a good experience throughout each dish and while the establishment is modest, the fact that they make their own desserts and bottle their own table wine makes it that much more special; never judge this book by its cover.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - David K.Culver City, Vereinigte Staaten01011. A simple and unpretentious meal in a throwback setting. Very traditional menu. Perfectly professional staff, hearty wines well-priced. Had a chiffonade of celeriac with mayonnaise, perfectly cooked short ribs of pork (added a touch of mustard to tame the slight sweetness of the sauce) delicious buttery potatoes and a pear tarte. Very good espresso. Was jealous of the other diners' pommes frites! Next time. Amazing location. Wasn't expecting something as simple and true in the area.

The two prior English-language reviews are spot-on. This place is a real find. I could give it five stars, but that would be sort of un-French. Not that I'm French ....
